Should you Switch Commercial Auto Insurance Companies?

When was the last time you compared commercial auto insurance company quotes? Even if you are completely satisfied with the customer service you are receiving from your current commercial auto insurance carrier, it may be time to consider a switch. Why? Namely, to save money. In addition to reduced annual premiums, organizations consider switching their auto insurance carriers due to inadequate coverage levels, recent negative claims experiences, or poor customer service.

Be Sure to Compare Apples to Apples

Gather 3-5 commercial auto insurance quotes, including one from your current carrier. When asking for quotes, be sure that you are comparing apples to apples; deductibles, coverage levels, additional features and benefits (i.e. towing coverage, rental car coverage, etc). In addition to price, be sure to consider factors such as the carrier’s customer service ratings (review online), percentage of claims paid over the past year, overall financial strength and accessibility (phone, email, in-person) when making the decision of whether to switch providers.

If you select to change auto insurance companies, be sure that your new policy is in force before cancelling your former policy to avoid a potential gap in coverage. Generally, the insurance agent will walk you through this process.

Make a point to compare commercial auto insurance quotes on an annual basis to ensure that your organization is receiving the best possible coverage levels at the most competitive price points. Schedule your annual policy review 30-60 days prior to your policy’s expiration date for consistency and to avoid potential cancellation fees charged by your current carrier for premature policy termination. You can access quotes for most major carriers online. Or, you can partner with a commercial broker that has access to multiple carriers. Either option will provide you with the comparison quotes you are after.
